The newly invented German printing press spread rapidly throughout Europe in the fifteenth century, and Venice was quick to adopt it. His Aldine Editions included translations of nearly all the known Greek manuscripts of the era in Venice.

Some of the most important brands of glass in the world today are still produced in the historical glass factories on Murano (see Venice on world map). They are: Venini, Barovier & Toso, Pauly, Millevetri, Seguso. Barovier & Toso is considered one of the 100 oldest companies in the world, formed in 1295.
